About

I wrote THE MEASURE OF A MAN: THE STORY OF A FATHER, A SON, AND A SUIT (McClelland and Stewart, 2011).

The memoir was a finalist for the Governor General’s, Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust, and Charles Taylor prizes for nonfiction.

I studied fine arts at Concordia University in Montreal including painting with abstract artist Guido Molinari. I received a master’s degree in architecture from the University of British Columbia.

For ten years I was a contributor, reporter, producer, and host on CBC Radio. I have also written art and architecture reviews for Parachute, C, Canadian Art, Canadian Architect, and The Georgia Straight.

My personal and fashion essays have appeared in ELLE Canada, ELLE Man, and Fashion. The short feature “You’re Beautiful” tied for GOLD with Heather O'Neill’s “When Your Mother Was A Stranger” at the National Magazine Awards.

I’m pretty sure her piece was better than mine.

These days I write an annual Christmas ghost story that airs on CBC Radio in British Columbia and contribute nonfiction to Montecristo.

My horror/fantasy hero Bekker, The Man in the Long Black Coat, has been featured three times in Pulp Literature. A fourth is on its way.

For fun I build Franken-guitars, working Lego cameras, and computers where I overheat the CPUs. I also run a Dungeon and Dragons (5E) campaign with my childhood friends who are now old as f*ck. How did they get so old (*ahem*)?

I currently mentor a nonfiction workshop at Simon Fraser University’s The Writer’s Studio.

I live in New Westminster, British Columbia, where I try not washing new dark blue jeans for at least a year.
